BREW NOTEBOOK
A PRACTICAL COMPANION TO THE GUIDES

Coffee-to-water ratio calculator

Calculate dry coffee or brewing-water input by weight. This tool is for filter and immersion recipes; espresso beverage-yield ratios use a different convention.

Read the result

The two quantities are dry coffee and water added to the brewer. They are not an estimate of the drink left in your mug. Grounds and the brewing device retain some water.

Check a worked example

At 1:16, 20 g coffee uses 320 g input water. Starting with 480 g water instead gives 480 ÷ 16 = 30 g coffee. Choose a vessel with sufficient capacity and follow the brewer instructions.

Use the ratio as a starting point

A ratio does not choose the grind, temperature or contact time. Keep a baseline recipe, taste safely and change one variable at a time. This tool does not measure extraction yield or recommend an espresso recipe.

Keep the result useful

Read the related guides for the reasons behind each decision. Inputs and results are processed on your device. This page does not send your entries to an external calculation service.
